Chapter Meeting Minutes from 11-24-2007:
Members present included Mike Turner, David Shtaida, Tom Ngo, Randy Grebel, Jim Rintelman, Aaron Crabb, and Tim Thompson.
There were seven others present also.
First order of business was to elect a new chapter secrectary as requested by Ron Parisi (the then current chapter secretary) because he has been unable to participate as much as he had anticipated originally. Mike Turner asked for volunteers and Randy Grebel was lone volunteer. Mike Turner motioned to accept Randy's nomination and members voted unanimously to approve Randy Grebel as new chapter secretary.
Those present were asked to give their reasons for coming to the meeting and being involved in electric vehicles. The responses included; "perpetuating a hobby", "wanting to protect the earth by not driving a vehicle that burns fossil fuel", "wanting to save money by not having to buy gasoline".
The group expressed interest in having an agenda that they can see before the next meeting.
Dave Shtaida, our most senior member (of the Electric Auto Association) told a few stories about his involvement with EVs and also fielded questions from those present. When asked for a tip for someone first getting started with an EV conversion David strongly suggests finding a very clean and structurally sound vehicle as much time and effort will be saved by doing so.
Tim Thompson, a retail dealer of Zenn electric vehicles answered questions from the group and also discussed the status of NEV (neighborhood electric vehicles) legislation in Wisconsin and its municipalities. He stated that unlike most states who have addressed the issue, Wisconsin chose to leave it up to each municipality as to how they choose to either allow or (by not allowing) disallow NEVs.
Mike Turner stated that he would write to the City of Watertown in order to ascertain its NEV ordinance status and work to get one passed.
Mike Turner told the group that the chapter website would be getting a face lift and that members should submit pictures of and stories about their electric vehicles.
The group was notified that a donation of $100 was received from Ed Harris - a member of the Fox Valley Illinois chapter. The money was used to purchase this website template and also to extend the registration for our chapter's domain name for another year.
The group decided that the next meeting should be on a Saturday in early April 2008.
The group then went outside to a city parking lot to look at and test drive a ZENN NEV which was graciously provided by Tim Thompson's dealership in Janesville Wisconsin. The feedback from everyone there was positive about the vehicle and Tim answered many questions. There were three pedestrians (including one woman who had already been to Tim's dealership) who stopped by to see what was going on.
The meeting officially concluded after that.
